With Benefits.
People engage in relationships for different reasons. They say history repeats itself but I’m not really sure whether this kind of relationship was present in the past. How do you get to be sexually attracted to someone and not be emotionally attached or in other words as people put it, have no strings attached? Well, the term friend with benefits (FWB) is not new to us. The FWB is more popular among us in Kenya than we think especially among the young people. There is no saying I love you, no going for dates, no pet names, but the only mutual agreement is based on bedroom matters. This is where the difference between love and sex comes in. FWB has to strictly involve a friend and not a stranger and it’s very different from a one night stand.
Most people who engage in that relationship have either undergone a breakup, are too busy to be committed since they are always on the move, have a spouse elsewhere or simply just want to have fun and explore. Many of those I have encountered also suggest it is less stressful, easy to walk in and out of, easy to maintain and satisfy their sexual desires without considering the emotions of the other party.
As much as the idea sounds simple it, however, has its own downfall since the friendship you once had with the person fades away, the respect you once had for each other is lost, one might actually end up falling for the other without the other noticing resulting to heartbreak, jealousy might arise whenever he or she starts getting close to a member of the opposite sex. In addition, it emotionally destroys you as a human being. The one likely to suffer is the woman as she focuses more on the friendship while the male on the benefits.
Just in case you want to try out the friends with benefits thing, remember that it is fun in the beginning but trouble comes along the way. It only benefits those who NEVER dream of having kids or getting married because it may ruin your chances of finding that one perfect long-time partner.

After graduating from university in 2009, Katongo began to pursue her music career full time and before the end of the year she was populated as a potential award winner of The People’s Music Awards. Since then, she has grown musically working with producers such as Anthony Galatis (produced Kim Wilde) and Richard Bignell (produced Jamiroquai.)Aside from her music, Katongo enjoys doing charity work. When crowned 2nd princess in the ‘Miss African Spirit’ beauty pageant 2010, Katongo worked with the charity ‘Africans United Against Child Abuse’ (AFRUCA). Youssou N’Dour ( born 1 October 1959) is a Senegalese singer, percussionist, songwriter, composer, occasional actor, businessman and a politician. In 2004, Rolling Stone described him as, “perhaps the most famous singer alive” in Senegal and much of Africa. Since April 2012, he has been Senegal’s Minister of Tourism and Culture.
N’Dour helped to develop a style of popular Senegalese music known in the Serer language as mbalax, which derives from the conservative Serer music tradition of “Njuup” He is the subject of the award-winning films Return to Goree directed by Pierre-Yves Borgeaud and Youssou N’Dour: I Bring What I Love directed by Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi, which were released around the world.

Dealing with Heartbreaks
Someone once told me that when one is in love, it’s like they throw their mind out of the window.That’s the time you feel like the world suddenly revolves around you, and that life would be meaningless without love. Today I chose a topic that school or family may not often address and its starts with the letter B……….yes it’s how we deal with breakups. I’m yet to know who suffers more in the case of heartbreak, the man or the woman but one thing I know for sure is that moving on is never that easy. A mixture of anger, low self-esteem, confusion and hate come in all together during this rough time. Just the other day a fourth year engineering student killed himself because of being dumped and I have also heard of many cases of people who take away their lives because of breakups. A heartbreak often results into depression but some people choose the wrong way to handle it. The good news it takes lesser time to move on than it took you to fall in love with your partner.
The words you’ll meet someone better, it’s not the end of the world, move on or I understand what you are going through never seem to make sense at that particular time. That’s because you feel as if no one else has ever experienced the same pain you are going through. There are different things you can do to lessen the pain. Avoid suffering in silence;they say a problem half shared is half solved. Get a friend or family member whom you trust so much and let them know what’s happening to you. That is a healing process in itself.Avoid staying alone in the house. This is the best time to bond with long lost pals, go out party have fun and create new memories.This,however, does not mean you rush into another romantic relationship just for you to feel secure as you might end up nursing two heartbreaks. Get rid of anything that reminds you of your ex as hard as it may be as this becomes real to you,that its actually over. Calling and insulting your ex might sound very good at the beginning but it doesn’t solve anything and you might say some very hurtful words which might torment you for the rest of your life.
Heartbreaks are normal and they make you evaluate yourself and become a stronger person. Remember, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.

How to know if your partner is cheating
Relationships are formed through various ways and become stronger with time. People become so close, you would immediately sense if one of you decided to cheat. Cheating is the number one cause of breakups and today I’ll focus on signs to look out for in case you suspect a spouse is cheating. Frequent secret phone calls are always the first thing to watch out for. If before you would even be left with your partner’s phone but now it’s almost a taboo to touch the phone, think twice. When you are in a relationship, there’s no need for your soul mate to go somewhere private just to receive a call. In case this happens, it suggests two things; one is engaging in some criminal activity or they are cheating on you.
A relationship is nurtured by how much time you spend together with your loved one. If you find yourself thinking about how you two rarely spend time with each other because all of a sudden he/she is putting in more time than is normal on work related issues, that’s another sign of cheating. One might be busy once in a while but if it becomes a regular habit don’t ignore it.
A new friend has come into the picture and he/she seems to be giving the new friend more attention. You then think you’re just getting jealous but your intuition suggests it’s more than friendship and you are in denial. Never ignore this sixth sense. Some people having affairs go as far as missing out on your special days e.g. birthday or anniversaries. All these signs I have highlighted are signs of cheating.
Before you go hurling insults at your spouse remember there’s always a reason that led them to behave that way. Confront them and if they admit to have cheated, the solution might not be breaking up especially if it’s the first time they did so.

A relationships worst enemy
We are not able to choose our parents, siblings or cousins but have the freedom to choose our romantic companion or should I say soul mate. Some last a lifetime, others a few years or just days due to common hitches experienced in relationships and here is what you should avoid doing. Lying is a disease which slowly becomes deadly. People lie in relationships mostly to avoid hurting the other party. Yes, small lies won’t hurt you but small lies accumulate into bigger lies. This in turn affects the trust one has towards the partner. Trust is something which is earned and takes time to develop and when its broken, insecurity arises.
Sometimes having things in common with your spouse can be really exciting as this allows people to bond more. Having different interests with your partner is also accepted as opposed to having same likes which can get boring with time. Jealousy can sometimes crop up in relationships especially if both parties are in the same age bracket or pursuing the same kind of profession and one is quickly rising to success. The jealousy leads to a competitive kind of relationship which is unhealthy.
Infidelity is a major cause of breakups. It is mostly aimed at satisfying sexual curiosity with a different partner. It is not advisable as many STD’s are promoted by having multiple sexual partners. Unfaithfulness is an act of selfishness or greediness and should be condemned. There are different reasons why people opt to be unfaithful but it can be prevented through self-discipline and commitment. The grass is not always greener on the other side.
All these relationship enemies can be defeated by not rushing into relationships for the wrong reasons, spending quality time with your partner and good communication.
